• ABOUT ME

Welcome. I am an Attachment based, psychoanalytic therapist. I specialize in the treatment of trauma, chronic pain, anxiety, and depression. I received my bachelor's degree from Colby Sawyer College in arts-management and my master's degree in psychology from Antioch University, New England. With over 25 years of experience I have come to understand that healing and growth are highly individual. Pain is the ultimate thief. When in emotional or physical pain, we are in effect, trapped in our body. It robs us of our energy, joy, and passion. Pain creates stress which worsens the pain and it becomes a vicious cycle. In PTSD and trauma, the brain never rests due to hypervigilence and fear. The sense of self and identity developes in a fear based, activated environment of fight or flight. Feelings are hyperintense and the traumatized self becomes frozen in the past often seeking intensity in order to feel "alive". The good news is that due to neuroplasticity, the brain possesses an innate ability to regenerate and create new neural pathways. A sense of safety is the foundation for true healing to occur. I foster a secure attachment and safe place for clients to heal at the core level. The key is to move beyond unconscious conflicts, and negative patterns that are keeping you stuck. This will free you to embrace the present with a sense of joy and rise above the pain. It is about going forward one small step at a time.

It was not until I recovered from a backbreaking horse fall several years ago that I discovered this powerful healing capacity within myself. I was compelled to share my solution for overcoming pain and anxiety with others. We will collaborate to find the best approach for YOU. You are the ultimate expert on yourself. You know yourself and your needs better than anyone else. I will help you reconnect to your own truth and learn to trust your instincts. I will take your lead as we go at your pace. I am trained as a classical, analytic therapist but have integrated my knowledge of neuroscience, and cognitive behavioral therapy into my work and believe in a balance between insight and action. My love of horses, animals and art have shaped who I have become, allowing me a unique blend of ingredients to bring to the table. In the gallery below are paintings I did during my recovery as I discovered a solution for overcoming pain and obstacles.

It would be a priviledge as well as a pleasure to partner with you on your healing path as you discover your own passions and talents along the way. Depending upon the individual, equine-related psychotherapy with horses may be appropriate (on a limited basis) to augment regular therapeutic sessions for clients who prefer this modality.
